Recently, four Houston Alumnae were honored with Individual Alumnae Awards at the 2008 Biennial Alpha Phi Convention.... 
 
Ursa Major Award Recipients 
The Ursa Major award recognizes alumnae members of Alpha Phi who have achieved outstanding success in their chosen fields, either professional or volunteer, on a local, state, provincial or regional level. 

Connie Mayes Dyer (Omega-Texas) 
Connie has been a board member of the Methodist Hospital System (Houston, Texas) for 20 years. During that time, she has served in various roles including the chairman for the Heart & Vascular Center Council and the vice-chairman for the Methodist Health Centers Board. Connie has also served on the Board of Directors for the Literacy Advance of Houston and the Memorial Assistance Ministries and has been an active member of Alpha Phi’s Houston (Texas) alumnae chapter since 1969.  
 
Anne DeWinter Kayl (Beta Epsilon-Arizona) 
Anne is a clinical Neuropsychologist at the University of Texas M.D. Anderson Cancer Center. She serves as the Associate Professor in the Department of Neuro-Oncology and as director of the Clinical Neuropsychology Training Program. She has published numerous works on the cognitive sequelae of cancer and cancer therapies and has presented at local, regional and national meetings. Anne maintains an active research agenda at her institution, receiving a number of grants to support her work. She is also a member of multiple institutional committees, including the Clinical Ethics Committee. She has served as secretary and president of the Houston Neuropsychological Society, a local professional organization. 
 
Michaelanean Award Recipients  
The Michaelean award is given each biennium to those who have shown outstanding loyalty and continuous devotion to Alpha Phi at the local level. 
 
Lyn Horne Flynt (Omega - Texas) 
Lyn affiliated with Texas (Omega) in 1951 and is a two time president of the Houston (Texas) alumnae chapter. She served as district governor for 6 years and has volunteered on both the International Convention Committee as well as the Alpha Phi Nominating Committee. Lyn has been involved with the Houston Area Panhellenic Association for 30 years, including serving as president. In 1990, Lyn was named “Woman of the Year” at the Omega chapter reunion. 
 
Ruth Wohman Gerum (Gamma Lambda-Houston) 
Ruth has been a member of Alpha Phi for over 50 years and an active member of the Houston (Texas) alumnae chapter. She has served as the chairman of the committee to re-write the chapter’s bylaws and has held many positions within the chapter including secretary and president. In 2007, Ruth co-founded the special interest group “Bordeaux Babes.” Ruth has also served as the committee chairperson for the Houston Alumnae Panhellenic.
